by problemaddict inhello sftw,.
when you have a moment.
why not have a respectful conversation about the societies blood doctrine, the evolution of that doctrine, and the implications of that doctrine.

This is what I was referring to, I think he means Marvin Shilmer, in case I didn't make sense.. SFPW's barely posted since being 'off the chain', though, so don't hold your breath.. -

Dis-member.. Firstly, that is in a different book entirely, with some guy possibly called John writing down his hallucinations. Secondly, look at the wording in the verse.. The serpent itself is described as being more 'astute, clever, cunning, subtle' than any beast of the field.. Not 'Satan', the serpent itself was being described. If it was merely a puppet for a superhuman being, why mention the perceived characteristics of a snake? Could it be that people added a later meaning that didn't exist in the original story?...

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

"How do we know that God cares about animals?..Clearly, the Bible teaches that animals were to be treated with propriety, respect, and compassion!...Though many people focus on their own concerns and ignore any consequences to animals, God compassionately considers them...Clearly, God is not insensitive to how animals are treated. His beloved Son, Jesus, even said that a single sparrow does not fall to the ground without his Father’s knowledge..."

Have you read C.T. Russell's controversial view of "new light"?
by Island Man in"if we were following a man undoubtedly it would be different with us; undoubtedly one human idea would contradict another and that which was light one or two or six years ago would be regarded as darkness now: but with god there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and so it is with truth; any knowledge or light coming from god must be like its author.
a new view of truth never can contradict a former truth.
new light never extinguishes older light, but adds to it.

That is indeed a classic find. I love some of the logic found in the Jw replies on the following page (discussing the quote you found):
.............
"I think it's over 100 years old and your grasping at straws. We are a religion that whose predominance is we are progressive. many things or ides thought to be valid 100 years ago are now not applicable. That's why non witness' always harp upon "The new Light. It's really not a good idea to use publications that old to make an argument or try to make one look foolish. We look forward not backwards.... Answer by teller of truths"
